TERAS by G. Despotakis examines the American Dream through the magnifying lens of Ancient Greek Tragedy. In this interdisciplinary performance we created an intersection between textual, “analog” media using the traditional shadow puppet figures, known as Karagiozis in Greek, in conjunction with multimedia, in situ projections, and audiovisual installations. Reinventing tradition and approaching the past meaningfully, TERAS formed a hybrid artistic field to narrate an archetypal story of family trauma, queer identities, and forced expatriation.
