The return of Iphigenia

Tatou Dede | Dance Music Theatre / The return of Iphigenia

In today’s Greece, where all the data is overturned, Ritsos’ speech becomes more crucial than ever. With raw material the ancient Greek tragedy raises controversial questions: what is modern Greece? What does it represent? What are its people and what is their truth? What is a homeland and what is the significance of the games that have taken place for it?

Environmental issues of social, political, economic and moral crisis are an extremely hot topics of discussion. In a time of anguish and forgetfulness, Ritsos’ work emphasizes the unity and tragedy of Hellenism through the ages, with the help of a language of modern poeticism and repressive explosiveness.

The sensitivity and sharpness of Ritsos’ work is brought to light by a modern performance that marries poetic speech, dance, and music. A performance crucial for today that penetrates into the multiple aspects of female existence.

“The Return of Iphigenia” has been performed at Theatre Alkmini, International Street Theatre Festival in Athens, Ermionida Monologues Festival, Olympia Festival, and United Solo Theatre Festival in New York.
