The performance, “SEVEN7,” uses, as its axis, the number seven; seven poems, seven pieces of the poet’s life, and seven aspects of the female entity. Through Sexton’s poems she talks about today’s woman, about her relationship with herself, her mother, and her sexuality. She also touches both on aspects of madness and suicide, two parts of human nature that plague today’s society but no one wants to touch on it. This is about how a woman reaches a mental or physical impasse and how she decides to end her life.
